The Latest Barack Obama Assassination Meme: Psalm 109:8 (“Let His Days Be Few”)

This is infuriating, but there are Christians—Christians!—distributing a bumper sticker that says, “Pray for Obama—Psalm 109:8″. This sounds innocuous until you actually go and read the verse, and those verses following it:

8 Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

9 Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.

10 Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.

The psalm goes on like this for several more verses still, and is saturated with religiously sanctioned, jihadi-style, hatred. And now it turns out that the verse is moving from the bumper sticker to the tee-shirt! Of the slogan and verse, the New York Times tells us that:

CafePress is selling T-shirts and bumper stickers . . .

And I found this at YouTube:

To counter this icky karma, I offer the following video (which represents for me what Barack Obama’s election was about):

If there is a god, I pray that (s)he protects our young, hope inspiring president, and that his wife never be made a widow, nor his little children fatherless. That’s my prayer (1 John 4:7-8).

Thank you for the uplifting video at the end and the caring and righteous words also!
Yes, let’s gather the energy of “bless and do not curse” and “unto the ‘least’ of these”…there are angry and hurtful actions taking place but I do believe that Jesus’ message of inclusivity, pacifism, egalitarianism, and social justice is growing in a radical way. Let’s continue working together with Barack to end militarism, greedy consumption, and bigotry.
Thanks for the post, Ryan McGivern

    Ryan,

I recently stumbled on a book on the Gospel of Mark that you might (based on your sentiments above) like. It’s titled “The Existential Jesus.” I’ve barely started reading it, but it looks good. It might function as a counterweight to the authoritarian Christianity represented by the Obama-hate promoters above. In any case, here’s the link to the book:

I posted this on another site as well. Dont be fooled

The person that started this whole thing didn’t read the all of psalms 109. It is a prayer against people that wish ill on President Obama. So read the whole psalms. The fool who started this is wishing verse 8-13 on them.

    Psalms 109 1-7 NKJV

    1. To the chief musician. A Psalm of David. Do not keep silent, O God of my praise!

    2. For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful have opened against me; They have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

    3. They have also surrounded me with words of hatred, and fought against me without a cause.

    4. In return for my love they are my accusers, but I gave myself to prayer.

    5. Thus they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

    6. Set a wicked man over him, and let an accuser stand at his right hand.

    7. When he is judged, let him be found guilty, and let his prayer become sin.

As you can see the sad person that started this was not smart enough to realize that the prayer is for him and not the President of the United States. If I were you I would read the rest of the psalm, it just gets worst for the red neck that was to dumb to see he was wishing ill on his own family.

And they say that black people don’t read. LMAO about this one.

Hey, Libs, this was quoted by Peter after Judas Iscariot KILLED HIMSELF, after realizing what he had done. How can you equate this with a call to asassinate the president?! (Hey, have you forgotten how Obama’s mentor, Jeremiah Wright, cited Psalm 137? Oh, a Liberal’s memory…) I recall the horrible written/spoken comments about President Bush during his years in office. Some wished him dead, publicly. There was even a movie where President Bush was killed! I bet you prayed for his safety too, didn’t you?!

  8. jburrus says:

psalm 37 “Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb” and Romans.12:19 “Daerly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written ,Vengeance is mine; I will repay ,saith the Lord”.
