I think.
This today at Alternet:
The Ugandan parliament is currently considering an “Anti-Homosexuality Bill,” under which any person “convicted of gay sex is liable to life imprisonment.”

What’s interesting is that these me in authority and their machoism are really the culprit-when midnight strikes, their own sexual insecurities are satiated. Hypocrisy masked w/ politics.
This was just covered on this night’s edition of the Rachel Maddow show. What’s really terrifying about this is Uganda was one of the places where Bush gave substantial funding for releif programs to stop the spread of aids. And many prominent republican senators have made visits to Uganda over the past 5 years or so advocating conservative values such as abstinence only policies rather than the traditional ABC policy (abstinence-be faithful-condoms, in that order), and talking about the evils of homosexuality.
They’ve also been trying to convert Ugandans to christianity, and Rick Warren has developed a close relationship with a prominent ugandan pastor whose name escapes me.
One thing you didn’t quote, Santi, was that there is also a law condemning Ugandans to death if they have aids and are a homosexual. I don’t know if they were inspired to pass this law because of Republican proselytizing, but the correlation is frightening.
Quick update- they are only sentenced to death (by hanging) if they are hiv positive, are a homosexual, and are caught having sex.
Joseph:
Thanks for the information. I’ll try to find Rachel’s segment on this.

At least the Africans have not yet degenerated to the level of the decadent West.
