Colin Powell on Religious Bigotry Directed Toward Muslims as Such

“Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer is no. That’s not America. Is there something wrong with a seven-year-old Muslim-American kid believing he or she could be president? Yet I have heard senior members of my own party drop the suggestion that he is a Muslim and might have an association with terrorists. This is not the way we should be doing it in America,” – Colin Powell

It’s about time someone raises this point. People came to this country, originally, to escape religious intolerance. Your religion is no more important than mine. Or his. Or that girl who doesn’t believe in God. This idea that we can’t separate an entire religion from a small faction is ridiculous. Do we still not understand in this country that “different” is not the same as “bad”?
