Both John McCain and Sarah Palin have shamelessly tried to get racial-fear mileage out of a story that now seems not to be true.
The girl who claimed yesterday to have been mugged and branded by a black man with a “B” on her cheek (for supporting McCain) appears to have made it up.
Money quote from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette website TODAY:
Police have called a press conference this afternoon and are expected to say that the inconsistencies in the story of a McCain campaign volunteer who told them she was mugged by a man who cut a “B” on her cheek when he saw a McCain sticker on her car have led them to believe it is a hoax.
