Recently, a chimpanzee in a zoo near Stockholm has been documented by scientists ANTICIPATING HIS FUTURE EMOTIONAL STATES AND PREPARING FOR CIRCUMSTANCES THAT HAVE NOT YET ARRIVED.
Santino, a chimpanzee at the zoo in the city north of Stockholm, collected the stones [for throwing at spectators] in a calm state, prior to the zoo opening in the morning.
The launching of the stones occurred hours later—during dominance displays to zoo visitors—with Santino in an “agitated” state.
This suggests that Santino was anticipating a future mental state . . .
In short, the chimpanzee Santino would make a great prospect for an army recruiter or insurance salesman, but perhaps a poor one for an impoverished itinerant Christian preacher, for Santino clearly shows signs of being one in the habit of violating the clear commands of Jesus to imitate “the lilies of the field” that “neither toil nor spin”, and to “take no thought for the morrow” (see Matthew 6:25-34).
This curious cousin of humans clearly plans for his future.
