According to Newsweek, John Brennan is doing his very best—-raising “holy hell”—in his efforts to protect Dick Cheney and George Bush.
What a great patriot Brennan is, trying to shield the American public from evidence that the previous president and his vice president may have been guilty of war crimes:
A fierce internal battle within the White House over the disclosure of internal Justice Department interrogation memos is shaping up as a major test of the Obama administration’s commitment to opening up government files about Bush-era counterterrorism policy.
As reported by NEWSWEEK, the White House last month had accepted a recommendation from Attorney General Eric Holder to declassify and publicly release three 2005 memos that graphically describe harsh interrogation techniques approved for the CIA to use against Al Qaeda suspects. But after the story, U.S. intelligence officials, led by senior national-security aide John Brennan, mounted an intense campaign to get the decision reversed, according to a senior administration official familiar with the debate. “Holy hell has broken loose over this,” said the official, who asked not to be identified because of political sensitivities.
Harsh interrogation techniques? Why doesn’t Newsweek use the word torture, hmm? Why can’t torture techniques be called torture techniques?
And when Barack Obama comes back from Europe he had better decide this in favor of casting air and sunlight onto one of the darkest chapters in American history, and stand up to the sandbagging and Orwellian obfuscations coming from careerists within the CIA. I certainly did not vote for Obama with the expectation that he would be complicit in sweeping Bush’s mini-gulag and torture regime under the rug. And there are a lot of other Americans who will be outraged if Obama does not do the right thing here.
