Today’s Number: 77

That’s the percentage of Republican senators who voted today not to confirm Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court.

77%.

Think about that number. Out of 40 Republican senators, just nine defied their nativist Republican base voters to support the first Hispanic Supreme Court nominee. Not even John McCain, facing a far right primary challenger, felt that he could defy the Republican base in Arizona and vote for a Hispanic woman for the Supreme Court. And don’t you know that McCain wanted to?

77%.

Sure, the Republican Party doesn’t have a race and xenophobia problem.

Right?
