A Song for Barack Obama: “Stuck in the Middle with You”

Barack Obama picked a hell of a time to be president: he’s a centrist politician who, in addition to inheriting a number of seemingly intractable economic and foreign policy dilemmas, is surrounded by total nut cases to one side of him and nuclear seeking terrorists to the other.

And yet he seems to be handling it all with an impressive élan. While living in New York as a young man, Obama is said to have read a good deal of Nietzsche, and it does indeed seem that he has embraced the contingencies of his existence with Nietzschean gusto and internalized Nietzsche’s insistence on amor fati.

So Mr. President, this song is for you:
