Herderian Religious Cleansing, 1930s style, in Malaysia and the United States

These two images are what anti-Enlightenment Herderian political action so readily devolves into. And now here we are, in the 21st century, playing these same old tapes: while Herderite Tea Partiers in the United States have been protesting the building of mosques throughout the United States, Herderite Muslims in Malaysia have been screwed up over the building of a Hindu temple in a Muslim neighborhood. This from Reuters:

A Malaysian court has sentenced a Muslim to a week in jail and fined 11 others for brandishing a cow’s head during a protest against the construction of a Hindu temple.

And:

The 12 were from a group who had marched in August last year with the head of a cow to protest a plan to build a Hindu temple in their mainly Muslim neighbourhood. Hindus, who consider the cow to be a sacred animal, were angered.

I imagine the Hindus would be angered by such a thing. I also imagine Muslims not taking too kindly to this inane American Christian group. Here’s the India Times:

A Florida church said it plans to publicly burn copies of the Quran on the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, prompting threats from Islamic groups and warnings the move will trigger a rise in hate crimes.

The Dove World Outreach Center of Gainesville, Florida said on its Facebook page it will hold an “International Burn a Koran Day” on September 11, asking other religious groups to join in standing “against the evil of Islam. Islam is of the devil!”

“Islam and Sharia law was responsible for 9/11,” pastor Terry Jones said.

And here’s a copy of a flyer recently distributed on cars in Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn. The flyer is fighting the building of a mosque, not near ground zero, but in Brooklyn:

The flies change, but the shit is the same. More Thomas Jefferson in the world, and less Herderianism, please!
