Saudi Woman Links to International Have a Meal with a Muslim Day (Sept 17, 2010)

At her Twitter feed, the brave Saudi feminist, Eman Al Nafjan, who blogs at SaudiWoman, linked to International Have a Meal with a Muslim Day, which I take as an endorsement.

And I’ve also been informed that an imam in Baltimore discussed at a mosque International Have a Meal with a Muslim Day  after Friday prayers, and supported the idea.

Won’t you join them? If you are a non-Muslim, ask a Muslim to join you for a meal, some coffee, or a walk, accompanied by some honest dialogue, on September 17th (or on some date thereabouts). And if you are a Muslim, ask a non-Muslim to do the same.

And you might use International Have a Meal with a Muslim Day  as an excuse—a stimulant—to start up a new friendship.

It can’t hurt to talk, can it?

And if you don’t know any Muslims, or don’t think that there are any in your area, let your “fingers do the walking” on your phone keypad. Call a mosque in your part of the world, tell the person who answers that you wanted to participate in International Have a Meal with a Muslim Day  on September 17th, but since you can’t, you thought you would at least call and tell someone—perhaps the imam—about the idea, and have a phone conversation about it with him. Likewise, if you are a Muslim in a predominantly Muslim part of the world, and you don’t know any non-Muslims, try to locate one by phone.

Who knows what you’ll learn about life from just this very brief human gesture.

Give it a try, won’t you?

And, if you remember, come back to this blog and let me know about your experiments with truth.

  1. Great news. I’m pretty sure I have a coffee lined up with a local acquaintance who has a Muslim friend. She suggested it after seeing my promoting the day 🙂

Tomorrow I’m asking our local cafe to take it up, and my sons high school. If we have kids and network at their school who knows how have the ripples may travel 🙂
