The Simple Truth

I think what the ideologically motivated person wants is a one party controlled state. Left or right, it is a poverty of wisdom and proportion to desire such a thing.

The great danger is that the right, in a time of crisis, actually has an outside chance of achieving this end. The left has no chance of ever doing this.

It’s why I continue to root for the demographic shift to traditional Democratic constituencies. It weakens the right a little bit every year. The real story of the 2010 election is simply this: traditional Republican leaning constituencies turned out in high numbers in an off-year election. Minds and demographic trends haven’t changed.

Amidst all the blue pipe smoke and triumphalist crowing coming from the right, that’s the truth that is being concealed. And it is being concealed most especially from themselves.

  1. I am not sure I agree with your assessment of what happened in this election. Undoubtedly, Obama got the shaft coming into a wrecked economy. But America has never had much patience. People wanted more results in his 2 years. For most Americans, the last 2 years has meant tightening the belt. Yet our government has not done a single thing to tighten the belt. They still spend like mad – both Dems and Reps. I think that all of that displeasure was expressed in this election. Why do we cut back, but not you? Why have you not made things better? This was the common thread. For better or worse, it got taken out on Dems. They did not create our problems, but they sure have not made it better for most Americans.
