The Promethean Who Stole Fire from Google: Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg on 60 Minutes

You’ll have to click over to YouTube to see this 60 Minutes segment on the founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, but it’s really interesting. Talk about a Promethean! Zuckerberg’s genius, I think, is to have tamed a human form of fire—the fire of human energies. He has taken the Internet from being a forest fire of random information to being a campfire—a campfire around which your friends gather and make information sharing personal. Google’s impersonal catch-all searches become, via Facebook, personal searches.

Put another way: Zuckerberg has stolen fire from Zeus Google. The “old boy networks” of the past, with their inherent tribal advantages for career-climbing and getting in on trends from the ground up, have been transferred to the Internet via Facebook.
