“Blessed are ye who lack degrees, for such is the Party of God.”
And they applauded.
What manner of man is this?
_____
“But woe unto those that are educated, for they art snobs.”
Here’s a transcript of Rick Santorum’s exact words:
President Obama has said he wants everybody in America to go to college. What a snob. […] There are good, decent men and women who go out and work hard every day, and put their skills to test, who aren’t taught by some liberal college professor (who) tries to indoctrinate them. I understand why he [President Obama] wants you to go to college. He wants to remake you in his image. I want to create jobs so people can remake their children into their image, not his.
And, for a reality check, here are some interesting numbers from the Associated Press (AP):
94: Percentage of parents who think their child will go to college, according to a Pew poll.
75: Percentage of Americans calling a college education “very important,” according to a Gallup poll.
21: Percentage of Americans calling a college education “fairly important.”
4: Percentage of Americans calling a college education “not important.”
4.2: Unemployment rate for workers with at least a bachelor’s degree.
7.2: Unemployment rate for workers with some college.
8.4: Unemployment rate for workers with only a high school degree.
13.1: Unemployment rate for workers with no high school degree.
Wow, he actually is appealing to the lowest common denominator.
No, no, it’s even worse. He is appealing to the lowest common denominator in order to get people to make him PRESIDENT.
He scares me. Really. He’s either a cynical dirtbag or a complete moron and I don’t fancy either of those types of men having control over the nuclear codes.
Wikipedia says the following:
“Most U.S. presidents received a college education, even most of the earliest. Of the first seven presidents, five were college graduates. College degrees have set presidents apart from the general population, and presidents have held such a degree even when this was extremely rare and, indeed, unnecessary for practicing most occupations, including law. Except for Grover Cleveland and Harry S Truman, every president since 1869 has had a degree.”
I would put money on it that Santorum has been to a very good college. So it’s enough for him and other presidents or politicians but not good enough for our children and future voters? Even though he’s calling Obama the snob, it sounds like Santorum is showing a form of elitism; Santorum will use his education to get ahead but he doesn’t think it’s necessary for us commoners.
The reality is that no education is actually directed toward the acquisition of values that allow us to understand how to coexist effectively as Equals. Thus college is a necessary credential in the world – vocabulary is vital to develop effective living skills – however, the problem in itself is not only a political candidate or having education or not, but the entire system that is currently not based in the absolute support to lead every being to become and live their utmost potential.
As long as we have a system where money keeps the wheels churning and is imposed upon the creation of dignified living conditions for all human beings, we will keep seeing cracks everywhere. Doesn’t matter if Jesus was a candidate and came to stand in the elections, if there is no new proposal for an overall reform of the system, even those with the greatest intentions will have to eventually succumb to it.
The decisions in this world have to stop being red or blue and money based – we have to start considering how to direct the current educated people with degrees to take the political local scene, and start propagating solutions that will not only change the face of a particular country, but of the entire consideration of what being a human living being Is and should be: living in Equality.
