The Alexandra Pelosi and Bill Maher Stereotype Controversy: Whites in Mississippi; Welfare Recipients in New York

Here’s Alexandra Pelosi’s “The South will Rise Again” segment for Bill Maher’s program, putting on display a small sample of Rick Santorum’s base:

_____

And here’s the follow-up segment, a week later, in which Alexandra Pelosi gets some Barack Obama voters at a New York City welfare hub to display their own loathsome cynicism:

_____

My take? The last sentences from Herman Melville’s “Bartleby the Scrivener”:

Ah, Bartleby! Ah, humanity!

Just watch Bill Maher squirm to justify the bullshit in the second video. A lot of people didn’t like the redneck video because they thought it wasn’t accurate. Nobody was defending it because they thought those guys were right. Fuck that asshole.

One interesting fact about Mississippi; since 1876 it always has Democratic Governor except for the periods 1992 -2000 and 2004-2012. So what did those Democratic Governors do to educate those yahoos.

    • andrewclunn says:

Come on now. New York has had several Republican governors. The state government is more than just the governor and a Mississippi Democrat is not the same as a New England Democrat and so on and so forth.

      • concerned christian says:

Well it’s true that New York has both Republican and Democratic Governors and the City of New York has both Republican and Democratic Mayors, that’s why it is not an easy case to discern. But Mississippi was dominated by Southern Democrats for a long time, and yes they are different from Northern Democrats, but in addition to making fun of those yahoos, can’t we try to figure who is responsible for their conditions?

      • Santi Tafarella says:

Ironically, the Republican Party was once the party of the highly literate and agnostic lawyer from Illinois, Abraham Lincoln.

Now it’s the idiot party of George Wallace.
