The Leadership Conference of Women Religious represents 57,000 nuns in the US, but it has become too feminist for the reactionary hierarchy of the Church at Rome.

Vatican officials . . . castigated the group for making some public statements that “disagree with or challenge positions taken by the bishops”, who are the church’s “authentic teachers of faith and morals.”
In other words, women in the Church need to know their place and defer to the men. No women’s liberation for nuns, thank you very much. No speaking one’s mind in public.
