Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) with Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO)
The above two men would forbid a victim of rape or incest to terminate her pregnancy. And they co-sponsored a bill in Congress that brought into contemporary discourse the noxious phrase “forcible rape.” Then Mitt Romney chose one of them as his running mate.
Think about that.
A man who forces a woman to carry the pregnancy of a rapist to term, thereby giving that rapist the gift of a descendent that he would not otherwise have had, is to become the accomplice of the rapist. No decent man tells a woman what she should do with her body in the aftermath of a rape. Paul Ryan and Todd Akin are indecent men. And they’re both on the verge of coming into greater political power in the United States. It’s infuriating that Mitt Romney has made both of these men possible–that he has supported a man like Todd Akin for Missouri Senate and brought Paul Ryan on the Republican ticket with him. He wants both of these men to be winners on election night in November. Mitt Romney is no friend of women’s rights.
