John Lloyd’s TED Talk, “Inventory of the Invisible”

__________

Here are four things that I take from this brief TED talk:

  • The empire of the visible is dwarfed by the greater empire of the invisible.
  • There are things that don’t exist, though we imagine them to exist. We hide these imaginary things in the empire of the invisible.
  • For the things we see, there are many logically possible ways to account for their existence, but only one of those ways is true. The question thus becomes how we go about searching for that needle in the haystack.
  • In probing the invisible, we can seek to uncover its truths by bringing them, one by one, into the light of day. Where, however, this is not possible, then we must be content with logical deductions and inductions based on what evidence we have.

That’s my “lowdown” on the invisible (and our tricky existential situation in relation to it).
