It’s entertaining to watch the Tea Party right send the Republican Party over the cliff, as in this ad pressing Mitch McConnell to defund Obamacare:
__________
The Republican leadership clearly recognizes that it cannot defund Obamacare without a stand-off with the President that shuts down the government completely, pissing off the majority of the country. But there’s also no appeasing the Republican base voter’s all-or-nothing mentality.
As with immigration and gay and lesbian civil rights, the Republican Party is showing yet again, by its ongoing rear-guard resistance to Obamacare, that it’s an aging dinosaur in an era of swifter moving mammals.
And now the dinosaurs are eating one another. Delicious.
Unfortunately, they can still do a lot of damage while they’re thrashing about.
But thanks to demographic shifts, hopefully just a little bit less with each passing decade.
True. The average age of Fox News viewers is in the mid sixties.
Oops. I wasn’t wishing old right-wingers to their graves. I was referring to the increase in the United States of Hispanics, Asians, the college educated, and urban-dwellers. These are among the factors in the demographic shift away from the rural white vote–Sarah Palin’s “true America.”
And the oldster vote, of course, does not necessarily work in the Republican Party’s favor (as Paul Ryan discovered in Florida after raising the issue of privatizing Social Security and Medicare, etc.). Obama won Florida twice.
