I read, including blogs like yours. The value to me is in joy and learning, as it is with any story I come across that transports me, whether written, verbal, nonfiction, fiction, short or long. My mentor tells me that the brain is hardwired to feel pleasure when we are carried away by story, the evolutionary reward being learning – how to live, socialize, survive. She says that our love of storytelling is the single most powerful aspect of our evolution to the top of the food chain, more powerful than the opposable thumb.
