How about some footage from the recent Gaza pigioen shoot by the IDF?
Humphrey,
What the Israeli military has done in Gaza of late is tragic, and I do not condone cruelty (from whatever quarter).
I am not an Israeli myself, and I do not follow Israeli politics well enough to know what sorts of military policies, in the defense of Israel, that I would support (were I an Israeli citizen).
I do believe strongly that Israel has the right to exist, and its democratic form of government is worth defending.
But I think that your terse comment is deeply cynical, and trivializes the Holocaust. Whatever the Israeli government happens to be doing at this point in history, it is not genocide, and there is no moral equivalence between the democratic Israeli Defense Forces and the Nazis.
Moral distinctions matter here.
I want the Palestinians to live in safety and with decency, and I hope that they can have an independent and democratic state soon. Insofar as I can discern, a majority of Israelis want the same thing. I think that the Israelis want peace with their neighbors—not genocidal cleansing. And, of course, there are theocratic fanatics on both sides who would wish to destroy completely their opposition, and where such factions come to power, they need to be resisted.
But to set the Israeli military in implicit comparison with massive, industrial organized genocide, is a grotesque trivialization of the scope and horror of the Holocaust.
